The Pasadena Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (PCADD), a program of Social Model Recovery Systems (SMRS), offers adult and adolescent treatment for alcohol and other drug problems. In addition, SMRS offers education, training, and consulting services for alcohol and other drug recovery treatment programs.
PCADD Programs
Outpatient Program
The treatment program is designed to meet the needs of people suffering from alcoholism and drug dependence. Included are assessment and evaluation; treatment planning and access to other resources; supervised implementation of the plan; monitored 12-step meeting attendance; education on addiction topics and issues; facilitated recovery support groups, and weekly individual counseling and case management. The Aftercare program provides on-going recovery and treatment support for up to a year after completion of the program. Available to adolescents as well as adults, families are also considered and included in the recovery process offered by this program.
Information and Referral
Every month PCADD handles hundreds of telephone and walk-in inquiries from people in the community seeking information and assistance. The Council is a comprehensive resource providing referrals for a wide range of questions concerning addiction and recovery. Questions from the general public include where can we get treatment, how much will it cost, how can a family help a loved one stop drinking or using drugs?
Prevention and Outreach
Providing prevention information and tools for coping without alcohol or drugs is an important service of PCADD. With education about addiction and support services for those at-risk individuals, families and communities are better able to prevent addictions’ negative impact on their lives. At resource fairs, community activities and events and upon request by local organizations, PCADD provides educational materials, speakers and consultations.
Training and Consulting
All trainings are based on real experiences that occur in the training room as well as the participants’ life experiences. The program challenges the traditional education paradigm of “I lecture, you listen.” The curricula are designed so that participants learn and develop; within this framework, they learn how to learn. The programs are on-site local, regional, and statewide trainings. Examples of the Training Curricula include:
Social Model Recovery Systems provides trainings which are highly interactive, utilizing discussion and real life case studies. Philosophically, the contents are grounded in the social therapy movement, post-modern philosophy, and humanistic education ideals. Continuing education units are available for all trainings provided.
The technical consulting services produce outcomes to allow agencies to know themselves better. Technical consulting provides a greater awareness of agency ideals and strengthens teamwork to better achieve the organization’s mission. Assistance is offered in a wide variety of subjects, including but not limited to, board development, licensure and certification, policies and procedures, quality assurance, cultural competency, and client retention.
